Game of Thrones Might End After Season 8 (and Yes, Jon Snow Is Dead)

Game of Thrones Might End After Season 8 (and Yes, Jon Snow Is Dead)

The end is near! HBO's president of programming, Michael Lombardo, revealed on Thursday, July 30, that he anticipates just three more seasons of Game of Thrones before the show is done.
While Season 6 is currently filming in Belfast, Northern Ireland (and other locations around the world that substitute for Westeros), Lombardo said that he thinks the show will only run for two years beyond that.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] are probably feeling there are two more years after [Season 6]," he
shared at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills when a reporter asked whether the show would end after Season 7. "Seven seasons and out has never been the conversation. The question is how many beyond the seventh season we're gonna do."

Author George RR Martin, whose book series provides the basis for the HBO hit, has planned seven books in his series. The books will certainly be outpaced by the show, as there is still no release date in sight for the sixth installment, The Winds of Winter.

But even if the show does end soon, it doesn't mean there will be no Game of Thrones-related content. The possibility of a prequel series set in the GoT world is something he is "open" to doing. "It really depends fully for us on what [the showrunners] want to do."
Oh, and just in case you were wondering if he has any insight on Jon Snow's fate, he is firmly in the "dead" camp.

"Dead is dead is dead. He be dead," Lombardo said, bluntly. "Everything I've seen, heard, and read, Jon Snow is dead."

Would you be sad if Game of Thrones ended after Season 8?
