Senate Orders Probe Of Funds Management Under GEJ, OBJ.

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday, August 13, set up a 13-member committee to investigate the management of funds directed to power sector since 1999.
Premium Times reports that Abubakar Kyari was appointed the head of the body, which possesses a two-week mandate to carry out the probe and file the report to the Red Chamber.

The development means that the investigation would cover the presidential tenures of Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari has been recently accused of witch-hunting the immediate past government. This followed Buhari’s claim that his probe would not extend to Obasanjo’s and Yar’Adua’ administrations.
However, the Senate resolution yesterday welcomed the motion introduced by its majority leader Ali Ndume. The committee is also set to probe  the unbundling of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria by the federal government.
Commenting on the resolution, Ndume lamented over unstable power supply, with so much money having been invested into the sector.

“This Senate needs to investigate to give the government support. For years now, a lot of money has been spent but there is nothing to show for it.”
