Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son Maddox turns 14 next week, but he's already got a job.
In
a new interview, the mother of six says that the teen, whom she adopted
from an orphanage in Cambodia in 2002 when he was 7 months old, will be
"involved behind the scenes" of her latest film project, which happens
to be rooted in his homeland.
As reported, Jolie is directing an adaptation for Netflix of Loung Ung's memoir, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers,
which tells the story of the author's childhood during the 1970s
Cambodian Genocide under the rule of the communist Khmer Rouge regime.
Filming is beginning in November, and it's now being revealed that her
eldest child will be his mother's right-hand man on the set of the film.
"Maddox will be on set every day after school and involved behind the scenes," Jolie told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
He'll
also be involved in pre-production. "As Maddox and I prepare the film
we will be side by side learning about his country," she shared. "He is
turning 14 next week and this is a very important time for him to
understand who he is. He is my son but he is also a son of Cambodia.
This is the time for our family to understand all that means to him and
to us."
But
this isn't the first time Maddox has dipped his toe into filmmaking.
Last fall, he was already helping out his mom on her romantic drama By the Sea,
which she wrote and starred in alongside hubby Brad. Maddox was a
production assistant at the time, and the oddness of the arrangement was
not lost on Jolie. "It's so weird," she admitted to DuJour magazine.
In
addition to the film industry, Maddox is also already working on behalf
of the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which is nice, since it's named
after him and all. "Maddox is already involved in the Foundation and
will take over my role when he is older," Angelina said in her interview
with the Associated Press. ICYMI, Angelina established the foundation
12 years ago "to help local families overcome problems associated with
poverty in the region and to help preserve the remarkable habitat and
wildlife for future generations."
Maddox's
life is hardly all work and no play, however. Last May, Angelina
revealed that he already had a girlfriend, who had Mom's stamp of
approval no less. "She's great," Jolie quipped to Entertainment Tonight.
"I won't embarrass him. She's lovely. She lives in England. She's very
cool." She went on to say that Maddox and his significant other were
able to stay in touch despite his family's busy travel schedule. "We go
there as often as possible," Angelina cooed. "It's really sweet. She's a
great lady, so I'm lucky. So far, we're doing good."
There's
no word on whether Maddox and his British gal pal are still together,
but one thing is certain: If he continues on his parents' path, there
will plenty of girls pining after him in the future.
