'I've been called a paedophile': Mum, 52, who plans to continue breastfeeding her daughter, 6, says 'people can say what they like, I know what I'm doing as a mother'
The
52-year-old mother who proudly breastfeeds her six-year-old child by
day during school hours has admitted that she has 'been called a
paedophile' because of her extreme breastfeeding practices.
But
Maha Al Musa, who lives in Byron Bay with her three children and
Scottish-born musician partner John Hamilton, says she has never been
personally attacked when sitting in public with Aminah openly
breastfeeding.
But she believes the criticism of her on Facebook and elsewhere online is an attack on females.

Maha Al Musa, 52, openly breastfeeds
her six-year-old daughter Aminah and says she has never been attacked in
public while breastfeeding, but that she has been called a 'paedophile'
by critics

Aminah, 6, doesn't care what people think of her because she is a good
mother of three healthy children and that criticism of her practices are
just are just attacks on 'the feminine'

Aminah, pictured with mother Maha, has
told her mother she might want to stop breastfeeding soon, except at
night, but has said it's her 'favourite thing' to do when not at school
and other kids should do it because it's healthy
'People can say whatever they like. I know what I am doing as a mother,' Ms Al Musah told Channel 9's Inside Story.
'I've raised three beautiful healthy intelligent well-adjusted children and that's all that matters to me
'I have never had anyone come to me when I am an breastfeeding and say a nasty word against me.
'My
heart goes out to people who criticise me and I respect people's
criticism. [But] this isn't about breastfeeding children. This is about
attack and disrespect of the feminine.'

Maha Al Musa, 52, regularly
breastfeeds her daughter Aminah and hasn't immunised her because she
believes strongly in the power of her breast milk to protect her child

Maha Al Musa wrote on Facebook last
weekend that her almost seven-year-old daughter had made a decision to
stop breastfeeding, which proved the natural wean age for children was
around seven to eight years old.

three children who she says are happy, healthy and well-adjusted and
that is what counts
Mother-of-three Maha Al Musa has caused a storm of comment since she was pictured in Woman's Day in May cradling her primary school age daughter Aminah as she was being breastfed in a park in her school uniform.
Ms
Al Musa wrote on her Facebook page at the weekend that daughter Aminah
was in the process of making her own decision about breastfeeding.
Aminah,
who told Woman's Day her mother's breast milk 'sometimes ... tastes
like candy canes. It tastes like a lot of things', is about to turn
seven years old.

Extreme breastfeeding advocate Maha Al
Musa posted on her Facebook page this picture of her bonding with her
prematurely born elder son in 1996, which marked the star of her
'breastfeeding journey', which will end only when her six-year-old
daughter decides she no longer wants to
'My
daughter a couple of weeks ago said she felt ready to stop
breastfeeding but only maybe do it at night ...!!,' Ms Al Musah wrote on
her Facebook page at the weekend.
'I told her to do what works for her ... and I fully support her decision ... this week she has 4 loose teeth.
'She
has been breastfeeding at night sometimes for just a minute or two and
other nights a little longer and occasionally no breastfeeding.
